PARKWAY ARTS

Upcoming Events, CircXtreme, Parkway Gospel Choir, Canberra Dramatics

Parkway Arts is a vibrant creative environment full of opportunities to create, perform and train in a variety of Technical, Artistic and Performance skills. Some of our major programs include CircXtreme, Canberra Dramatics, and Parkway Gospel Choir.

Productions vary depending on who is available and interested and what skills are on offer at a given time. Collaborations are encouraged and nurtured. One-off shows and regular gigs like our annual Carols by Candlelight are always in the making. Everything from puppets and fine arts through to singers, dancers, actors and techos (even drummers) can have a place in the Parkway Arts Community.

Parkway Arts exist to express the nature of the divine Creator in all His wonderful Glory and diversity. We are to inspire, question, discuss, serve and nurture - all to the Glory of God!

Parkway Arts are about what the Holy Spirit is saying now. That’s why what we do today is not what we did yesterday nor will it be done again tomorrow (unless it’s relevant).

> Our People

We consist of people of all ages and all levels of skill in their respective artistic and technical fields. Pastor Sussan Soong (Ass Dip Creative Ministries) oversees all Parkway Productions and all Parkway Artistic Development Programs including CircXtreme, Canberra Dramatics, Parkway Gospel Choir Productions, The Parkway Arts Community and Parkway Productions. It’s a fun job, like growing a garden - very organic and prone to seasonal change with wonderful new things always popping up! That’s not to say we don’t have dreams and plans there’s always a blueprint to follow and Godly principles to be outworked so that our garden is beautiful and works well for all involved. As for the practicalities, well “Money is like manure, it should be spread around to help young things grow”. (Hello Dolly) We believe that and the same goes for all our wonderful resources, including our people.

> Parkway Gospel Choir

Parkway Gospel Choir offers a wonderful opportunity for members of Parkway and the wider community to experience the joy of singing, performing and developing their vocal skills and repertoire in a friendly supportive community environment. Solid teaching techniques and an emphasis on consistent improvement make this a choir that seems to raise the bar every time they take to the stage. However, most members of the choir when asked recently what they get out of being participants responded with “fun and friendship!”

Parkway Gospel Choir is here to enjoy life and spread that joy throughout Canberra!

> Our People

Fiona Benton currently heads up Parkway Gospel Choir. A singer and an instrumentalist herself, Fiona aspire to bring enjoyment through singing and interacting with a wide variety of individuals, but at the same time pursuing making wonderful harmonies with the voices in the Choir.

Dip in Creative Ministries and more than 20 years of experience in church Music Ministry. >Canberra Dramatics

Canberra Dramatics offers opportunities for dramatic artists to engage in all aspects of theatrical production across a range of dramatic media. Current activities include projects for theatre, film and radio. We are unique in the city of Canberra as the one theatre company dedicated to producing new plays by playwrights from the city and surrounding region, using the talents of local performing artists and production teams.

Canberra Dramatics is a community of theatrical artists working in their chosen medium with the purpose of promoting Christian life principles and bringing the power of God into the places where Canberrans experience theatre. We seek to relate to both audiences and professional peers in this endeavour, furthering the Canberran church’s pursuit of Christ’s Great Commission in every way possible. Biblical principles are the foundation upon which Canberra Dramatics is built, and everything we do is influenced by our Christian heritage.

Our vision is that a light will shine in the theatres of Canberra and the darkness will not overcome it.
